Camping Trips November 29 - December 4

We left on Tuesday to head for the GA'RVERS RV.net Rally in Pine Mountain, GA. We decided to leave early to get a good spot at the campground. The plan was to stay overnight in Montgomery, AL and head on to Pine Mountain on Wednesday. Not being familiar with the area, I found an RV park on the internet in Montgomery and we had planned to stay there. Much to our surprise, this place was totally unacceptable. This marks the VERY FIRST time that I have ever paid for a site and left without staying (they did give us our money back but they didn't want to) You can read all about it on our Campground Ratings for The Woods RV Park. Anyway, we left without staying and circled around Montgomery and got on I-85 toward GA. The fuel gauge was hovering around the big "E" so Debbie pulled out the (worthless) book "The Next Exit" to try to find a truck stop. This "resource" told us there was no truck stops between Montgomery and the GA state line (80 miles) so we had to take the first thing we could find with diesel, which happened to be one of those "stupid" stations that point the pumps at the building. It was interesting to say the least to back a 37 foot trailer around 180 degrees and get out of the only exit from this station. Five miles up the interstate we saw a sign for Windrift RV Campground and since it was getting dark we were staying no matter how bad it was. By the way, there was a truck stop at that exit. So much for "The Next Exit". We were pleasantly surprised with this "no frills" park. Wednesday morning we headed for Georgia and arrived at FD Roosevelt State Park about 1 PM.

We had a GREAT time at the Rally. We met a lot of nice people and will be joining them again in the future. Unfortunately I left the camera at the trailer when we had the get together and pot luck supper.

Highlight Of The Weekend: The guy that locked his keys in his Class C with it parked in the road. After a locksmith was already called, one of our group walked up and unlocked the vehicle through the OPEN DRIVER'S WINDOW!
HYSTERICAL!!!!!!!!!!

This is what we got from The Woods RV Park in Montgomery, AL. Mud...and lots of it. Took me awhile to get it off before we headed to the RV Rally.

This is Windrift RV Campground in Shorter, AL. A great little no frills RV Park by the interstate with 50 amp, water and sewer. There's a nice little pond as well.

Very small laundry and showers. But brand new and spotless.

Very large pull thrus, perfect for an overnight stop.

Here's our site at FD Roosevelt State Park. One of the few pull thrus in section 2. This park is very difficult to maneuver through with anything bigger than a 30 foot trailer but we managed.

A great view from our site of the lake. The weather wasn't this nice during the whole visit. In fact this is the only day we had sunshine. We enjoyed our stay though and met lots of nice people that we hope to camp with again.
