| It's amazing how the scenery can change
just over the hill. It was mostly flat and the next Rest
Area promised a "Scenic View". Of course it
was CLOSED. And as we dropped over the hill, the
Missouri River was in front of us. |

| Once at the bottom of the hill Debbie
took this picture of the river from the bridge. |

| This is 1880 town. No pets allowed so we
took a break and let Lady do her business and moved on. |

| The terrain got flat again but some nice
views of rocks. |

| Here's the same rocks, just closer. |

| Wall Drug. We must have seen hundreds of
signs for it. We're going to backtrack Friday and go
there and to the Badlands. |

| We lunch
camped at a rest area that was actually open. |

| We left the camper at the campground and
headed for Mt. Rushmore. If you look to the right you
can just see Mt. Rushmore as we top the
hill. |

| People told us to take the shuttles to
Mt. Rushmore because the parking was bad. We didn't find
that at all. There was plenty of parking and they had
oversized ones for trucks and RV's. $8 to park, and no
admission fee. |

| This is what I wanted to see. Did you
know that 90% of the carving was done with dynamite?
They had an expert come in that knew just how much
dynamite to use to blow away the right amount of rock
and then did the finishing work with drills and chisels. |

| Debbie took a nice picture of the Black
Hills on the way back. They don't look black to us but
they're their hills so they can name them whatever they
want I guess. |

| A nice look at the 10% grade coming down
from Mt Rushmore. Stopped at a Safeway grocery store to
stock up on some more stuff and headed home. |
