Full Timing Journal - May 2009

May 29, 2009 - Wow, May is gone already. We spent two GREAT weeks in Kansas. The weather was beautiful. Then it was time to move again. We headed toward Kansas City and the rain started again. Our goal was to make it to Michigan by Monday. The first day we did about 350 miles, a little longer than we wanted. I broke my cardinal rule for overnight RV parks. The rule is if I can't lay my eyes on it from the interstate, we keep going. I made an exception and we ended up on a dirt road that led us to a VERY outdated campground out in the boonies. The sign on the highway was very misleading and it seemed like it would be okay. I did get us out of there with careful maneuvering and we finally got back on the road. 30 miles later we found a decent place. Thursday turned out to be a long day. From Indianapolis up I-69 there are pretty much ZERO places to stay although we did find some parks less than an hour from Shipshewana, but what the heck, what's another hour of driving? We arrived in Shipshewana at 7:15 PM and finally got set up. Today Debbie doesn't have to cook. It's Das Essenhaus for us this afternoon. Monday we'll head to Waldenwoods in Hartland, MI for a couple weeks.

May 13, 2009 - We finally outran the rain. We overnighted in Morrilton, AR on Tuesday and then made the 400 mile trip to Wichita, KS. We originally were going to stop in OK City but the forecast was for severe storms. So we continued on to Kansas and arrived at North Star RV Park about 3:30. No rain and blue skies. We'll stay here two weeks if the weather holds. You can see some pictures of the park here. On another note...some things never change. Oklahoma roads still SUCK. All these years we've traveled through OK and it's always the same thing. We are renewing our vow to never travel through OK again.

May 12, 2009 - A little catching up to do. On the 3rd we moved over to Natchez Trace State Park and met up with our friends from the Everest Club. It was a WET week with rain and showers most of the time. Nothing new there, we've only seen the sun twice in the past three weeks. From there we moved to MS to Mid South RV Park for a few days. Starting today we're traveling without a plan. Would like to find SOMEWHERE in the country where it is NOT raining!
