Full Timing Journal - May/June 2007

June 29, 2007 - Back in Colorado now. We stopped at the park that our friends were at, wow, what a disappointment this place is. Almost tore the awning off trying to get into this site that was NOT made for rigs like ours. These people that own this place have NO CLUE. Read our review to get the real scoop. Tomorrow we're going back down to the Colorado Springs area for overnight, mainly to eat at Famous Dave's before we head into TX where there are none near where we'll be. Then we're headed into Kansas for a while if we can find a decent place to stay.

June 27, 2007 - We hoped to find a place to hang out for a couple weeks to get the new "Home" arranged but there's slim pickins here in Cheyenne when it comes to decent RV parks. We stopped at the KOA and booked for two days to look around but there's just nothing here that I would want to stay for a while at. So we'll drop back down into Colorado, meet back up with George and Wilma for a day or two and then head for Texas so we can get the new motorhome registered.

June 25, 2007 - If you're wondering why we spent a couple days in Longmont, the picture below is the reason. We have been looking for a particular floor plan for our next RV/Home and found three of them in Longmont, CO. It is a new model and there are not a lot of them on the market as yet. We purchased on June 18 and returned on the 25th for delivery. Conveniently, there was a Datastorm installer in Longmont so on the 26th I took the new coach to them and had the satellite dish transferred to it. We left Longmont on Wednesday headed for Cheyenne.

June 21, 2007 - We went to Canon City, CO to take the Royal Gorge Railroad trip through Royal Gorge Canyon. It was a two hour trip and WAY less eventful than the Durango trip. We didn't freeze to death and there were no trees trying to fall on us. On Sunday, we moved up to St Vrain State Park in Longmont, CO.

June 17, 2007 - We left Alamosa and headed west toward I-25. La Veta pass was not near as tough as Wolf Creek Pass and we arrived in Fountain, CO about 1 PM.

A drive through the hills

June 10, 2007 - We left Durango on Hwy 160 headed for Alamosa, CO. We climbed the mountains and through Wolf Creek Pass. At 10,800 ft it's a long way up. I had to stop two miles from the top for a few minutes to let the transmission cool down. The ride down was easier and we arrived in Alamosa about 1:30 PM.

June 6, 2007 - We took the Durango-Silverton steam train for a ride. And what a day it was. It was windy when we left and the further we went, the worse it got. We were stopped twice so the crews could remove trees from the tracks and then eight miles from Silverton, a boulder was down on the tracks. We sat on the tracks for hours watching trees fall. Finally the decision was made to turn us around and go back to Durango. A 12 hour trip!

June 1, 2007 - George and Wilma pulled in about 12:30 and got their Everest fifth wheel all set up. George took the picture below on the left of the Durango Silverton train coming through the park. Blow the picture up and you can see me standing on the bank watching the train. You can see their Everest in the background and the top of our motorhome to the right of their trailer. We have tickets to ride the train on Wednesday the 6th. Stay tuned for some pictures.

May 31, 2007 - We finally arrived in Durango, CO. Our friends George & Wilma will be here tomorrow. We're not too enthused with this park but it will do for the next 10 days. No way to hit a satellite but the wifi and cable are decent.
